Central New York Pasture Poultry Walk
Wrong Direction Farm and the Central NY Grazing Group will be hosting a pasture walk highlighting pasture-raised poultry within a grazing farm setting.
Discussion topics will be open-ended and guided by the group’s interest but we will be prepared to discuss the following aspects of pasture-raised poultry farming: breed selection, brooding, field shelter options, feed and supplementation, predators, fencing, labor efficiency, butchering and packaging, and marketing. We can also discuss the interaction of pasture-raised poultry with other farming activities, such as crop and vegetable cultivation or livestock grazing.
These pasture walks are for farmers and by farmers, so we focus with practical concern on real issues affecting each of our farms’ abilities to thrive in an always-challenging environment.
Farmers of all kinds are welcome, whether you are using GMOs or not, whether your fields are in corn or permanent pasture, or whether you have poultry or not! Just bring your willingness to share and your eagerness to listen. Farming is hard; we all need each other!
About Pasture Poultry Walk Host Farm, Wrong Direction Farm
Wrong Direction Farm began in 2011. The Perozzi family farms approximately 100 acres in the Mohawk Valley. Their farm enterprises center on Certified Organic, pasture raised broiler chickens and turkeys. They also grass finish a herd of beef cattle. Their meat products are sold directly to customers in the region for home delivery via their farm website. A growing portion of their business involves raising pastured poultry for other farms to resell.
